Russians postpone Prokofiev Competition, yet again

If you have applied for the conducting or composing contests, don’t expect to see your money back. The website calls the Prokofiev ‘one of the most important competition of the Russian Federation’. Only the piano section will take place this year, and it’s  the one of least consequence.

Here’s the announcement:

Dear Participants,

The Organizing Committee regrets to announce that the VI International Prokofiev Competition in Symphony conducting speciality was postponed again. Only Piano speciality will be held in this year. As You know the Competition is financed by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and Saint-Petersburg Government, but nonetheless we sincerely regret for this situation from the Organization Committee’s side.

It will be held on Autumn, 2014 approximately. We do hope – the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation will confirm exact dates for 2014 soon.

With our warmest regards,

International Prokofiev Competition

President, Vladimir Logutenko

Director, Katerina Ovchinnikova

The entrance fee is a modest 100€. I think one’s application would be valid for next year.

  2. It’s not just a question of the amount, it’s also honouring the organization’s obligations towards those who applied. The least they deserve is a plausible reason, which is not forthcoming. There would be an uproar if we did this here.

  3. Steve de Mena says:

They have no funding for this year. Seemed pretty clear to me.
