Paris gets a new orchestra

The northern suburb of Sarcelles, inhabited by large North African, Assyrian and Jewish communities, has formed a symphony orchestra.

Its first concert is tonight at the Espace AndrĂ© Malraux. The conductor is the township’s conservatoire director Pierre Deville and many of the players are former members of the Orchestra de Paris and the Philharmonique, now teaching at the Sarcelles conservatoire.
