Canadian architect gives first peek at the new Mariinsky

Jack Diamond, who designed the new Mariinsky Theatre for Valery Gergiev, has given the first virtual tour to his native CBC. They seem to like it. The house will open on May 2, Gergiev’s 60th birthday. Here are some pics.

  1. Yes, it certainly looks like a Jack Diamond building — although it’s a little fancier than the halls he’s built in Canada. (Maybe someone gave him a serious budget this time!)

He had 120 millions $ in Montreal to build the hall…what’s a serious budget? And, indeed, it looks nicer on the outside that Montreal’s Maison Symphonique.

Just out of curiosity, how big is that Mariinsky? It looks gigantic!
