It’s a wild idea, and several Bolshoi-niks have rejected it instantly in Izvestia. But in the theatre’s present state of crime and punishment, there could be worse remedies than having the next boss chosen by the artists, without state pressure or interference.
The proposal comes from United Russia Duma member,Vladimir Vasilyev. And if it doesn’t work in Russia, why not try La Scala? Seriously, let the musicians, the singers and the dancers have a say.
At least they won’t have to carry on selling their bodies for roles. Allegedly.
