Girl, 6, wins violin contest for under-18s

A child from Darlington in the northeast of England has beaten children almost three times her age to win the violin section of the town’s music and drama festival. Katy Sludds has been playing the instrument since she was three.

I draw the incident to attention since it mirrors quite uncannily an episode in my first novel, The Song of Names, which also took place in the same corner of the country.
