Hmm. .. Orozco-Estrada seems to be taking on quite a few assigments. He is currently Music Director of the Orquesta de Euskadi in San Sebastian Spain.

This is a full time orchestra with a busy season, considered one of the most important ensembles in Spain. He began there in 2009/10. Is his contract up there, or will he be holding 3 full time music directorships – in Houston, Frankfurt and Spain?
His contract in San Sebastian finished and the orchestra is looking for a new chief conductor.
His next assignment will be singing the role of Parsifal in Colombia….:)

So is it true Noseda was a frontrunner for this job?
Since he wasn’t chosen is he available? He’d be great for the Euskadi Orchestra, or any of the other Spanish orchestras looking for Music Directors right now – Madrid’s Orquesta Nacional, or Valladolid’s Orquesta Sinfonica de Castilla y Leon, in the position Lionel Bringuier recently vacated.
Here’s a nice interview with Paavo Järvi in a local Frankfurt newspaper.
He says, notably, that conducting is a job “for the second half of your life. Only then do you have the experience necessary to penetrate a work. (“Dirigent ist eigentlich ein Beruf für die zweite Lebenshälfte”, sagt er, “erst dann kommt die nötige Erfahrung hinzu, um ein Werk zu durchdringen.”)
