Jérôme Savary died yesterday of cancer, aged 70.
Of French and American parentage, born in Argentine exile, he worked with Lenny Bruce and Allen Ginsberg before creating, in Paris, Le Grand Magic Circus. He was made director of the Opéra-Comique (2000-2006) and personally produced, among many works, La Belle Helene, Cenerentola, Carmen, Rigoletto and Barber of Seville.

A great shame.
