Sweden loses a magic flute

Gunilla von Bahr, recording pioneer, manager of the Malmo Symphony Orchestra and principal of the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm, has died at the age of 72.

A gifted instrumentalist, Gunilla launched her husband Robert’s label, BIS, with a best-selling album of flute favourites. She went on to make 25 recordings and, swiftly popular, achieved the first gold disc by a Swedish classical artist.
