Critical accident at dress rehearsal on Chicago opera stage

A fire-breathing performer suffered life-threatening injuries during the dress rehearsal of Wagner’s Mastersingers of Nuremburg on the stage of the Lyric Opera, Chicago. Wesley Daniel, 24, was rushed to hospital in critical condition with burns to his face and throat. The rehearsal was later resumed. Here’s a video report from WGN News.

    How is it possible, this kind of accidents happens on a classical stage? Are we so poor, that we need to impress the public by doing a circus out of a theater? What was the regisseur of the production thinking of when allowing this “triq” on stage? It was a danger for the other singers too…
    Anyhow i wish W.D. to get better soon.That s sad.
