Fascinating obit today in The Age for Jim Stockigt, who has died aged 73.
Jim played bassoon in the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra for ten years (his father had played in the Hamburg Philharmonic).
All the while, Jim was gaining prominence as the country’s go-to endocrinologist, a leader in hypertension research.
In his spare time, he taught himself to play baroque bassoon, since there was no other period practitioner in the country.
Quite a guy.
