NYPD detectives have been giving information about their investigation into the death of Lou Rispoli, former secretary of the composer Virgil Thomson and a popular community figure.
They have sketches of two out of three suspects and a description of their car. They sound reasonably confident of making an arrest.
None of this – neither the murder, nor the investigation – has been reported in the New York Times.

What on earth does gayness have to do with this murder? Would you have gone out of your way to say that a straight associate of Mr. Thomson had been murdered? Would the New York Times have reported on this murder if the perpetrators or the victim had been heterosexual?
