Wayne McGregor’s choreography for Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, scheduled for the work’s 100th anniversary in March, has been indefinitely postponed by the Bolshoi.
The reason given is the acid attack on artistic director Sergei Filin. The underlying concern is that is may be unsafe for foreign artists to work at the Bolshoi until the causes of the attack are clarified.
The production was to have been screened in hundreds of cinemas worldwide.

At the Théâtre des Champs-Elysées where the premiere took place, they will celebrate the 100th anniversary with a double performance, the original (or reconstructed, I guess) and a modern choreography. The dancing will be by Valery Gergiev, and he will be accompanied by the Mariinsky ballet and orchestra.
I, for one, cannot wait to see Mr Gergiev dance the Danse Sacrale.
I wonder if the Bolshoi took the decision to cancel or if McGregor refused to come …
