Iran’s revolutionary composer has died

Mohammad Beiglaripour, who wrote the new national anthem after the Islamist revolution of 1980, has died of lung cancer, aged 67. He was chief conductor of the state broadcasting symphony orchestra. Among his celebrated works is one titled ‘Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’.

His style would have come under the agitprop category in the old Soviet Union.

    Norman,

After listening to to piece you posted I can’t seem to see any agitprop (Agitation propaganda) in it at all. It’s only 4m30 sec. long and the chorus, outside of ooooh, aaahh, only sings some words for about 30 sec.n the middle. Not allot of time to get the crowd roused with agitation via propaganda! It did remind me of a bad version of Ketelbey’s “in a Persian Market”. Looked like quite a few of ex-pats in the orchestra also. I got a kick out of the very enthusiastic cymbalist on stage right!
