German town cancels concerts after conductor, 46, is found dead

Thomas Rösch was a local hero in the Schwarzwald region. A passionate musician who worked with every kind of ensemble from brass band to symphony orchestra, he was appointed last year as conductor of the Musikverein Grüningen. He was also active in politics, standing unsuccessfully as an SPD candidate in local elections.

Yesterday, he was found dead at the home he shared with SDP councillor  Monika Kaltenbach. No cause has been given.

This week’s concerts in Grüningen are cancelled.
