The opera director Peter Ebert died in Ringmer, Sussex, on New Year’s Eve at the age of 94.
He attended the 1934 opening of Glyndebourne, where his father Carl was artistic director, and directed his first opera there in 1954, Busoni’s Arlecchino.
After a decade as chief producer at Hanover State Opera and Deutsche Oper am Rhein, Peter was director of productions at Scottish Opera from 1965–75 and general administrator from 1977–80.
He married twice, had ten children and lived most of his life happily in Sussex.
