This email is from Marjorie Alt of Environment America:
Dear….
The New York Times just announced that it is dismantling its environmental reporting desk and assigning the seven reporters and two editors to other departments.
The Times claims this move will not impact its environmental coverage, but that’s hard to believe. Seven reporters currently dedicated to environmental issues will now be in other departments writing about other issues. With all of the threats our environment faces we now more than ever need a strong media presence investigating and reporting on environmental issues.
That’s why I created a petition on SignOn.org to New York Times Executive Editor Jill Abramson urging her to reverse this terrible decision.

The petition says:New York Times: Say it ain’t so!
We need a strong news source keeping us informed about the threats facing our environment now more than ever!
With the impacts of global warming becoming more evident every day, gas drillers destroying our clean air and water, and polluting special interests buying off our elected representatives right and left, now is not the time to eliminate your environmental department.
I am urging you to keep your environmental desk open to continue its thorough and unbiased environmental coverage.

Thanks!
