When Franz Welser-Möst walked out on next summer’s Mozart cycle, the reasons given were lack of rehearsal and recovery time for singers.
The Salzburg boss, Alexander Pereira, who worked with FW-M as Intendant for 15 years at Zurich Opera, has a different version. Here’s what he said tonight:
In plain English: ‘The real reason for the cancellation could be that two people who once worked together intensively over many years have grown apart. This I find very unfortunate because I was hoping that, in Salzburg, we could have reconnected to the positive times of our cooperation.’
In even plainer English: they’ve stopped talking to each other.
