Moscow pays its respects to Galina Vishnevskaya

All afternoon and this evening, people will file past the coffin of the great soprano, which has been brought to her opera centre at Ostozhenka, 25.

At 11 tomorrow morning, there will be a funeral service at the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. The coffin will then be taken to the Novodevichy Cemetery, where Galina will be laid in eternal rest beside her husband, Mstislav Rostropovich, who died in 2007.galina mourns

  1. Dr. Marc Villeger says:

Meanwhile in Canada… Three days after her passing Vishnesvskaya’s death has been greeted with a resounding silence in the internet output of the two prominent nationwide newspapers, the National Post and the Globe & Mail “Arts” section.
As for the state broadcaster, CBC Music “Classical”, someone just ripped a tweet off: “cbcr2opera: Also the passing of soprano Galina Vishnevskaya. RIP.” Finally, the daily flagship classical music program play log was suitably altered to feature the late Ravi Shankar as soon as the news was known, yet not a note sung by Galina hit the airwaves.
“La Presse” and “canada.com” at least mentioned the news.
