Galina Vishnevskaya receives supreme honour from president Putin

The Russian president has signed a decree awarding the highest rank of Services to the Fatherland order to the great soprano, widow of the cellist and conductor, Mstislav Rostropovich. The singer, who – as she relates in her autobiography – was harassed by Putin’s KGB colleagues for much of her career, is 86 years old and rarely seen in public.
