Thousands signed the petition to save the Metropole Orchestra but nothing is certain as yet, and it’s not all good news with the Dutch government playing ‘pass the parcel’ in its funding for the arts and arts education.
“Het kabinet moet nog een besluit nemen over het voorstel” = the government still has to take a decision on the proposal.
“Bussemaker waarschuwde eerder al dat het redden van het Metropole ten koste zou gaan van andere zaken, zoals cultuureducatie of andere orkesten” = the minister already gave a warning that [funding for] the Metropole would mean cuts elsewhere, such as cultural education or other orchestras.”
Enlightened, eh?
