When Mahler married Strauss

Our vigilant readers have spotted the closely attached love match in the New York Times.

What should interest us more than the coincidence of names is the happy coincidence that the young couple met while raising funds for an orchestra. Now that is truly remarkable.

Most other reports in the media tell us that orchestra activism is strictly for oldies.

What’s more the bride-to-be, who manages an orchestra, was raising the cash for a totally different ensemble. That has to be a good altruistic omen.

Mazal tov to them.
