Alexander Pereira has gone public on Bavarian Radio, declaring that he invited the SWR Baden-Baden Orchestra to Salzburg next summer as an outright protest against the merger of this distinguished orchestra with another in Stuttgart. ‘I find this absolutely scandalous,’ he says. He joins a roll call of musicians, led by Pierre Boulez, who have been outraged by the SWR plan.
It is highly unusual for an Austrian institution to interfere in an internal German cultural affair.
