Just in: two more publishing giants to merge?

Weeks after the Random Penguin deal, the Wall Street Journal reports that HarperCollins is in merger talks with Simon & Schuster.

WSJ and HarperCollins are both owned by Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp, so the report comes on good authority.

Murdoch was thwarted an eleventh-hour swoop to snatch Penguin from the jaws of sharky Random. So he’s agglomerating elsewhere.

This just gets worse and worse and worse… for writers, for readers, for diversity of opinion.
