Just in: Hot tenor renews his album deal. (No, it’s not Kaufmann)

Rolando Villazon has re-signed with Deutsche Grammophon. That’s Frank Briegmann with him, the Universal boss in Germany. Apparently, an edict has gone out that from 16 October all Universal bosses must switch their ties for woollen scarves.

Kaufmann, you’ll be amused to hear, has hopped off to Sony Classical. But he won’t be working for them any time soon. He has three DG albums to finish before they let him off the hook.

Rolando, meanwhile, has his sights right now on the up-and-coming Verdi year.

Villazon is the leading tenor in all 7 Nézet-Séguin Mozart Operas (although I suspect they won’t give him Don Curzio in the Figaro).
