In Italy, they recycle disused opera bosses

We predicted two months ago that Carlo Fontana, the former La Scala boss, was plotting to take over the Teatro Regio in Verdi’s home province of Parma ahead of the composer’s bicentennial year. Well, he’s just done that.

Fontana was sovrintendete at La Scala from 1990, through most of Riccardo Muti’s era. He was caked in February 2005 after Muti quit over personal and policy differences.
