Glyndebourne appoints a dramaturg – an American all-rounder.

‘Who needs a dramaturg?’ said the artistic director of a major UK opera company at a recent meeting. ‘What is a dramaturg?’ said another.

Glyndebourne, with a bright young music director Robin Ticciati succeeding Vladmir Jurowski in January 2014 decided it needed one, starting now, and flew her in from America.

Glyndebourne appoints a Dramaturg

Glyndebourne has appointed Cori Ellison as its first-ever Dramaturg to advise on specialist opera content for a range of initiatives including programme books, publications, media, and pre-performance talks and study events, and to provide support to Glyndebourne’s creative teams.

A leading creative figure in the opera world and previously staff dramaturg at New York City Opera from 1997-201o, she will join the Glyndebourne team on a part-time basis this autumn. She will continue her freelance work with American opera companies, conservatories, and music publications, as well as her faculty position at American Lyric Theater, where she teaches opera dramaturgy for the Composer-Librettist Development Program.

For more information contact the Glyndebourne Press Office.

Comments

  1. She’s top drawer…good hire.

  2. Cori’s the real thing; she’ll help out a gifted young conductor who’s still learning the repertoire. And frankly, after so many Brits taking up management positions in the US, it’s nice to see the stream go in the opposite direction, if but for a moment.
