It has been five months since nine European members of the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra were told to pack their bags and, while this site and others have reported outraged reactions from musicians around the world – including the orchestra’s guest conductors - Malaysian media have been cowed into not covering the story.
That silence finally broke today in a Malaysian Insider piece, reporting the FIM call for an international boycott of MPO auditions and some of the responses on Slipped Disc.
The MPO’s chief executive Nor Raina Yong Abdullah refused to comment. She was, her assistant said, in a meeting.
I wonder if the music director Claus Peter Flor has anything to say. If you see him in rehearsal, do ask. And let us know.
