The baritone Eduard Khil, who entertained the nation with the Soviet equivalent of the Laughing Policeman, died today aged 78.
Born in Smolensk in 1934, Khil won a competition in East Berlin and took his particular brand of baritone comedy to 80 different countries. Late in life, he became a Youtube star, with 12 million hits, and was known the world over as Mr Trololo.
