Just in: Jonas Kaufmann’s comeback date

He’s planning to open the Vienna Opera’s recital season in October, in place of Diana Damrau, who is pregnant. Good news on both fronts.

Here’s the press release:

Erstes Solistenkonzert der Spielzeit 2012/2013 an der Wiener Staatsoper:
Jonas Kaufmann anstelle von Diana Damrau
Das erste Solistenkonzert der neuen Spielzeit 2012/2013 der Wiener Staatsoper wird am
23. Oktober 2012 Jonas Kaufmann anstelle von Diana Damrau gestalten, die diesen Auftritt
aufgrund ihrer Schwangerschaft absagen musste. Am Klavier: Helmut Deutsch.

  1. Good news for Kaufmann fans but hardly a ‘comeback date’ surely? His schedule seems pretty full leading up to 23rd October – presuming that he shakes off his current ailment.

  2. Thomas Moser says:

In the midst of a sea of cancellations, Jonas sang for the opening of a foorball game. What was the significance of all that ? One can´t perform in concert halls and opera theatres, but is healthy enough to perform in a football stadium ? Am I the only one asking this question ? I know Jonas and have the greatest respect, but there are some things which are beyond my possibilities to imagine. I would have thought that after cancelling several high-end concerts in Zurich, it is not ver “pc” to appear on teleision all over Europe at a soccer match…….

  3. I am glad for him that he knows when he will be better.
The fact remains: unless he cultivates different habits and/or finds another teacher, he will back on vocal rest shortly, and will never be free of these problems.

Thanks for information Norman that Jonas Kaufmann will be singing in Wien 23 October!!! Leave him alone all you ‘nitpickers’ out there and give him some space …. he obviously needs a break. Just hope he is better soon! I am presently listening to him singing ‘Mein lieber Schwan’ from Lohengrin – beautiful! I adore his voice – AND him! BTW I have a tattoo on my arm “My eyes saw and my heart understood” (from Lohengrin) but that was before I ‘knew” Jonas!!!!

  5. GET WELL SOON JONAS

I BROKE THE BANK TO GET A TICKET FOR ALBERT HALL CONCERT AND ROYAL OPERA HOUSE.

    I WAS SO DISAPPOINTED.
HOPE HE COMES TO ENGLAND NEXT YEAR.
