Desmond: First Place Again
The Jazz Journalists Association announced its annual awards last night in New York. Roy Haynes was honored for lifetime achievement in jazz. Sonny Rollins was named musician of the year, Dafnis Prieto up and coming musician of the year, Thelonious Monk Quartet with John Coltrane at Carnegie Hall, album of the year. And there was this:

A richly deserved award. Anyone reading the book about Paul Desmond will end up knowing more about him than anyone did before the inputs were assembled and the book written. Kudos to Doug Ramsey, the author.

Doug Ramsey's Take Five: The Public and Private Lives of Paul Desmond was so well written and detailed that it seemed to bring its subject to life. Congratulations, Doug!
