DVD

Michel Petrucciani, The Power of Three (Blue Note). Two-second cuts, segmented screens, endless dissolves, clever post-production effects: we are spared all of those manifestations of digital-age video virtuosity in this superb, straightforward account of the late pianist’s meeting with Jim Hall and Wayne Shorter at the 1986 Montreux Jazz Festival. The music is the same as that on the CD of the same title, but sensitive camera work, directing and editing allow us the intimacy of being all but inside the music as it is made. It’s the best kind of video; no gimmicks, just watching talented people do what they do best.

Thanks for reminding me about the Phil Woods DVD, and QJ CD. I've just ordered both... I noticed them first a few weeks back when I ordered the Bill Holman Live release. BTW, 'Rifftides' has become a daily reference for me. Thanks!
