This blog is founded on Doug's conviction that musicians and listeners who embrace and understand jazz have interests that run deep, wide and beyond jazz. Music is its principal concern, but it reaches past...
...the fashions, trends and commercial facets of the jazz scene of the moment, month or year. It considers current artists, performances and recordings not because they are current, but because they have value. It examines the broad history and universal aspects of the jazz mother lode that enriches not only music but also culture and life in general for millions of people. This blog is dedicated to taking music seriously, but itself with only enough seriousness to maintain reasonable dignity.

Just read your review of Blanchard's set at Yoshi's. I saw the band's last set at Jazz Alley on the 7th.

Blanchard made a point of endorsing the many programs, like the BISC, encouraging the audience to support them, and presenting his band as an example of their output. Yes!

I'm still sorting out my own reaction to the music that evening. Certainly an entertaining show, and really a treat to see Aaron Parks continued growth.

Here are images from their set: http://brucecmoore.com/pages/blanchard.html

Cheers,

Bruce Moore

Thanks for your post about Sonny Rollins' new album. I saw him in Chicago this spring and thought it was one of the best concerts I've ever attended.

Thanks also for your blog. I've enjoyed reading it.

Regards, Carl
