After my column ran today, a friend pointed out that the New Press website refers to Michael Bellesiles as a "celebrated historian." I have always had a very high regard for the New Press but this is disgraceful.
It's also been brought to my attention that the column offended gun nuts, who do not like to be called "gun nuts." In the future I will instead call them "Ballistic-Americans."
