The Damndest Things Can Make You Nostalgic
For example, here's a mini-commercial from the LaRouche campaign in 1984:
You can see why he never got ahead. He was up against the KGB, the left wing of the Socialist International, and the grain-cartel interests. I believe that is in ascending order of sinister-ness.

The meticulous reports at http://www.publiceye.org/larouche/ seem sort of beyond the point, if Scott is right that all Larouche's intellectual divagations are basically psychopathological. Though you could say that about lots of other anti-Semites, I suppose.
Since Google killed my blog (my employer won't pay me to blog about cool code that I wrote for him, so I left it idle for too long), I'm forced to use Scott's to report on this little find: "101 Forgotten Greats & Unsung Heroes" at http://www.guitarplayer.com/article/101-forgotten-greats/feb-07/27696. You'll notice that the list includes Zoot Horn Rollo *and* Eddie Phillips of the Creation! Both of them kick ass almost as hard as Sister Rosetta Tharpe (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOmRm0-acJw).

Not two months ago, I and my beloved breezed by a table set up along a major thoroughfare in Berlin...a table stacked with LaRouche material, watched over by a sandwich-board poster of the big man himself!
"Who's *that*?" asked my perplexed Beloved.
"Don't turn around. Walk. *Fast*." Is all I could give by way of an answer.
*Those eyes! Those terrible eyes!* (gargling sound)

You'll be gratified to know that Larouche "has connections to" (a favorite phrase of conspiracy theorists everywhere) Jude Wanniski: "It was around this time that Wanniski's nuttiness began manifesting itself in ways that even conservatives could recognize. Wanniski began meeting with and defending Louis Farrakhan, the head of the Nation of Islam, explaining, 'I expressed my belief that Jewish leaders fear he could lead the black electorate away from the Democratic Party and into opposition of support for Israel.' And Farrakhan is far from the only unsavory character Wanniski embraced. He likened Slobodan Miloevi to Abraham Lincoln. He met with the lunatic conspiracy theorist and convicted felon Lyndon LaRouche and hired a number of his followers at his economic consulting firm. ('[T]hey're not trained in demand-model economics,' he explained to BusinessWeek with undeniable logic.) And Wanniski championed Saddam Hussein, even to the point of denying that the late Iraqi dictator had ever used chemical weapons against the Kurds. ('There is no possibility that Saddam gassed his own people," he wrote.)'" This from TNR, http://www.tnr.com/doc.mhtml?i=20070910&s=chait091007&c=3

Tony -- yeah, this is something that TNR has covered before. They had a feature on Wakkiski back in the 1990s that pointed out his links to LaRouche.
Steve -- crazy eyes indeed, a quality shared with his frau, who evidently has some profile on the fringes of German politics. Maybe not so much lately, since most of the European wing of his movement fled LaRouche in late 2006.
