Wikipedia
Wikipedia, created in 2001, is a multilingual, web-based, free content encyclopedia project. Wikipedia's articles provide links to guide the user to related pages with additional information. Articles are written collaboratively by volunteers from all around the world. Wikipedia is one of the largest reference sites on the internet, with at least 684 million people visiting the site yearly. It contains more than ten million articles in more than 250 languages (over two million in English alone).
Visitors need no specialized qualifications to write or contribute to a
Wikipedia article. Most of the articles can be edited by anyone,
simply by clicking the "Edit this page" link on an article's page.
However, substandard or disputed information is subject to removal.
Wikipedia's policy is to add to the encyclopedia only statements that
are verifiable; therefore, they do not publish original research or
thought. Material must be attributable to a reliable, published
source. Because of this, there are specific rules to adding
biographical material about a living person.
Anyone intending to write a biographical article about a living person should carefully review Wikipedia's policies, in particular their Core Content Policies (Neutrality, Verifiability, and No Original Research). Wikipedia policy may be found here.
If you are a publicist for an artist, you are not considered to have a neutral point of view and any article written by you about an artist may be considered a "public relations piece designed to promote a company or individual" (in effect, a form of SPAM) and may be removed from Wikipedia. Because of the vast number and variety of people who visit Wikipedia and edit its articles, it is highly likely that anything suspect will be noticed and flagged for removal. In some cases, anyone found to have used Wikipedia to promote oneself or an individual he or she represents will be warned and potentially blocked from using Wikipedia.

Creating an Article on Wikipedia
- Go to en.wikipedia.org.
- In the upper right-hand corner, click on "Log in/create account."
- On the "Log in" page, click on "Create one."
- Fill in the necessary information, except for the email address, which is not required. If you would like to enter your email address and you are a publicist writing a biographical article for a client, avoid using your business email address. Either create a special email account on a server such as Gmail or Hotmail (recommended) or use a personal email address.
- You are now registered on Wikipedia. On the page that will now appear, click on the link to "Frequently Asked Questions."
- On the "Frequently Asked Questions" page, click on question number one, "How do I create a new article?"
- Click on the link "Wikipedia: Your first article."
- Carefully read the information provided and follow the instructions to create your article.

About
Life's a Pitch Why don't we apply the successful marketing and publicity campaigns we see in our everyday lives to the performing arts? Great ideas are right there, ripe for the emulating. And who's responsible for the wide-reaching problems in ticket sales and audience development? Boring artists? Greedy managers? Overstretched marketing departments? We're beyond debating who owns the problem. Let's fix this thing.
