Launched in 2004, Facebook is now the second largest social networking website in the United States (behind MySpace). The free-access website allows users to easily connect and interact with other people, and it is now also possible to create a Facebook profile for an artist, band, brand, or business. Users can add themselves as "fans" of an artist or business, write on
an artist/business profile's "Wall," upload photos, and join other fans
in discussion groups.

Features

- Enter the musician/band's name.
- Click on "Create page."

- You may now upload photos, videos, and music, following the simple onscreen instructions. (Note: to add music to your page, you must upload a JPG, GIF, or PNG file of your passport, photo driver's license, or school ID to verify that you are the artist or are authorized to represent the artist. This will require you to scan the document onto your computer.)
- You may also add information such as genre, hometown, record label, website, manager, booking agent, press contact, influences, and biography, as well as create events and invite friends to attend.
- Before your page can be made public, you must follow the link to publish it.

- Enter your date of birth.
- Follow the instructions in the "Security Check" section.
- Click on the box next to "I have read and agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy"; you may wish to review these sections before agreeing to the terms.
- You will then be directed to your email server, where you will find a confirmation email. Follow the link in the email to your newly created page.
- You may now upload photos and videos (in the "YouTube Box") to your profile by following the onscreen instructions.
- You can also enter information such as location, phone number, website, and public transit directions.
- Now, or at any point in the future, you can post news items about your venue (in the "Notes" section) and create events to which you may invite friends and fans. There is also a "Discussion Board" where you can interact with your fans and a "Reviews" section where users can write detailed reviews of performances and rate them from 0 to 5 stars.

About
Life's a Pitch Why don't we apply the successful marketing and publicity campaigns we see in our everyday lives to the performing arts? Great ideas are right there, ripe for the emulating. And who's responsible for the wide-reaching problems in ticket sales and audience development? Boring artists? Greedy managers? Overstretched marketing departments? We're beyond debating who owns the problem. Let's fix this thing.
