REASON WITHOUT THE RHYME

SAMUEL ALIOTO [Photo: Lucian Perkins / The Washington Post]Yesterday's rhyme and reason made good sense to us. That's why we posted it. This morning's New York Times offers an endorsement with its lead editorial, "Judge Alito, in His Own Words."

MRS. ALIOTO [Photo: AP]Though it lacks Leon Freilich's meter, the editorial gives more than enough reason to reject Alito's nomination to the Supreme Court -- Mrs. Alito's tears notwithstanding -- by breaking down the judge's Senate testimony into these categories: evidence of extremism; opposition to Roe v. Wade; support for an imperial presidency; insensitivity to ordinary Americans' rights; doubts about the nominee's honesty.
