Beauty in Strength and Honesty By
Vibha
I'm still revved up from the show. I am stunned by the power of Peggy's honesty to be herself, in spite of her sense of herself as "other." What courage. Is it defiance? Or a fiercely insistent life force...
I don't have much or any testosterone, but maybe I don't have to be so soft. Peggy jumpstarted my confidence to be myself, to be the hero/warrior/truthteller I've been seeking in others.
In her monologues, I felt excited by the unpredictable interplay of accessible (prose) and mysterious (poetry).
The threads of cars, music and personal commentary made, for me, a unique fabric with sludge on it and sequins.
Being an introverted straight massage therapist poet seeker of Silence, by the end of the show I was feeling a bit overwhelmed by all "da noise and da funk." I wanted her to transcend something and in some way return to Source. But I will never forget the power of her exposing her breasts and the tender boy dancing there, and how that made me weep... for what? for all the truths about me that I hide? For all the vulnerable parts we all hide?
I'm for balance: for strength AND softness. I thank Peggy for showing me the beauty in strength and honesty, for showing me who she is and for inspiring me to be myself truly.
