Humorous, fierce and poignant, Allen Johnson draws from his experience as a visual artist, poet, truck driver and boiler mechanic to create a solo performance exploring the recklessness and vulnerability needed for an intimate encounter with God, a lover, or oneself. Directed by Sean Ryan, Another You is a series of brutally honest, interwoven monologues exploring our primal need for intimacy. Johnson’s work-in-progress of Another You premiered at OtB’s NW New Works Festival in 2004, and toured to PICA’s TBA Festival in September of 2004. The full work premiered at the TBA Festival in September 2005.
Another You was birthed in Seattle after Sean Ryan’s West Coast premiere of Sarah Kane’s Crave. The staggering generosity of Kane’s writing, and her belief in the redemptive power of love’s foulest truths, have been fuel for this project ever since.
