Whiting is a dancer, choreographer, and mathematician who resides in Seattle. She graduated cum laude with a degree in Mathematics in 1989 from Smith College, where she studied math, visual art, and continued to dance. In 1997, she founded the Maureen Whiting Company. Maureen Whiting Company has been commissioned to create new choreographic work for Seattle University, New City Theater, Center for Contemporary Art in Seattle, The Annex Theater, and at OtB including Bowie: Inside/Outside. Outside of Seattle her work has been shown in New York, Amsterdam, and Sweden. She also facilitates and performs solo work in The Field in Seattle and in New York. Whiting choreographed and co-directed original film and video projects which were shown at New Dance/New Cinema, Lincoln Center Library as part of Dance on Camera, and at Seattle’s Northwest Film Forum. Whiting was granted a creative music residency in 2002 at Jack Straw Productions, where she composed an original sound score and created an installation with local designers. In January 2000 the Company was asked to participate in the Seventh Rencontres Choreographiques Internationales de Seine-Saint Denis (The Bagnolet Festival) in Los Angeles. In addition to creating original company work, she has choreographed for theater productions locally and in New York. She has also created and performed original work in Europe for a Frankfort Ballet Company dancer and locally for dancers of the Pacific Northwest Ballet.
