About the artist
Laura Curry born in Chicago, works as an interdisciplinary artist primarily informed from a dance esthetic. Laura has been supported with two Artist Trust Fellowships for Choreography; the CityArtist Program through the Office of Arts & Cultural Affairs; Seattle Arts Commission; King County Special Projects; 4 Culture Special Projects, Artist Trust Gap Grant; West Sound Arts Council; Arizona State Arts Commission; and the Artist Trust Aqua Fund. Laura has had the privilege of showing work locally at On the Boards, KCTS TV Channel 9, Bumbershoot, Hugo House Surveillance Inquiry, New City Theatre, the W Hotel, and Vain Beauty World. Laura has toured work to On the Edge Festival Vancouver B.C., Theatre Artaud S.F., and ASU West - School of Interdisciplinary Arts. Commissioned works have been performed in the United States, France, Germany and Australia. She was one of a select group of Seattle-based choreographers chosen for the National Dance Project Dance Lab in August 2004. Laura’s development of PINKK: a study of voyeurism in contemporary culture presented through the peep-show vernacular as interdisciplinary performance experiments, has been her primary focus for 4 years. In July 2004, data acquisition from 2 sources began through personal ads placed on the internet, and interactive media booths found in public spaces in and around Seattle.
